Standard Bronze Turkeys are on the Livestock Breed Conservancy Watch list (resources) with fewer than 5,000 breeding birds in the United States, with ten or fewer primary breeding flocks, and estimated global population less than 10,000.
The Standard Bronze Turkey breed was one of the most popular turkey varieties in America. The Standard Bronze Turkey originated from crossing domestic turkeys brought to the Americas by European colonists with Eastern Wild Turkeys.
Because the Standard Bronze Turkey wasn't bred to today's requirement for fast growing turkeys, the breed is very rare. They are 1/3 the size of today's commercial broad breasted turkeys. Unlike the commercial turkey varieties, the Standard Bronze turkey grows slowly, is able to mate naturally, and can live for a long time.
Do you know where your turkey feathers come from? When you buy from Running Bug Farm you do! My Heritage Turkeys are humanely raised. They live outside 365 days a year free ranging on pasture the way Mother Nature intended. I use natural holistic methods to treat my animals and my family. Running Bug Farm is better than organic. Your purchase supports my small Eco-farm and I thank you!
I clean my birds feathers using filtered well water, Eco friendly soap, vinegar, and dry heat sterilization.
Feathers are hand packaged and labeled. Labels provide my farms basic information, the type of bird, the quantity, and the size of the feathers.
Feathers are from my Eco-farm; raised, cared for, and loved by my family. I am not feather reseller.
Feathers are from my smoking free home, although I do heat my home exclusively with a wood stove as I am almost entirely off of the grid and this is my only source of heat.
I do not sell feathers from endangered or protected species of birds. Such as Eagle, Hawk, Owl, Falcon, Song Bird, Parrot, etc. I exclusively sell feathers only from my own humanely raised farm birds on my small Eco-Farm.
Size: XXL
Size Examples:
I have provided photos of feathers with a United States Standard ruler which is twelve inches long (12"). A standard United States silver quarter (25¢) is pictured with the ruler to further assist with scale. I have also provided photos of approximately fifteen feathers in my hand for those who prefer not to use standard measurements.
If you are unsure of the size of feathers that you need, I strongly recommend getting a ruler, tape measure, dress makers tape, etc. and looking at the size/s you need in inches (rather than using the eyeball it in the hand method). First measure where you want to use the feathers and what your expectations are. When you see the approximate length, write it down and compare that length in inches to the feathers I have listed to help you find the size that's perfect for your needs. If you are still unsure, please contact me and I will do my best to assist you.
