This gentle, soft cool pinkish-purple angora fiber is dyed with blackberries I grew myself on the farm—zero chemical inputs, not even organic-approved, hand-picked from my own canes. To protect the ripe berries from birds, I placed rubber snakes throughout the canes and rearranged them every evening to keep them realistic — a daily ritual that made every berry feel truly earned.

Solar-dyed with natural blackberry and alum on pure white wool from my Ruby Eyed White buck, Marshmallow Fluff. The result is a delicate, muted cool pinkish-purple with soft, subtle charm — much gentler and less vibrant than brighter first-use batches. I also dyed two cotton scrunchies in the same pot; they took the color more strongly with a pretty tie-dye effect (some areas leaning more purple, others more pink).

Harvest & Prep
Gently hand-pulled (with comb assistance when needed) during natural molting—no scissors or clippers! This careful, ethical method adapts to each harvest: hands for quicker sections when the new coat emerges, and a comb for comfort on my wrists while removing the loose shedding coat comfortably for the bunny. It preserves long, smooth fibers with tapered ends—ideal for luxurious spinning with great halo and gentler feel. Thoroughly rinsed multiple times post-dye for softness and dye stability.

Allergy & Sensitivity Note
Hand-pulled angora like this is often gentler for sensitive skin—no sharp cut edges. True angora sensitivities are rare (usually from processing or coarser fibers), but test a small amount if you're new to it. Other natural or dyed options available in the shop!

Dye & Care Notes
100% natural blackberry dye from my own chemical-free canes, mordanted with alum and solar-dyed. As with many berry-based natural dyes, slight bleeding or fading can occur over time or with washing. Wash separately in cool water with mild soap or a vinegar rinse to help set the color. For finished angora care, see my guide: How To Clean Angora Wool Sweaters and Clothing.

Care & Storage Notes
Store raw fiber in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture to maintain softness and prevent mustiness. To help deter moths, place cedar blocks or dried lavender nearby—I grow and sell dried lavender stalks here on the farm (perfect for making your own sachets, refillable bags, or using in large natural tea bags). They add a gentle, calming scent while naturally repelling pests (refresh every few months by squeezing). Keep in breathable bags or containers (avoid airtight plastic long-term unless vacuum-sealed briefly). If washing before processing, use cool water and mild soap gently.

Photos & Final Notes
Photos on four organic backgrounds—white pelt, dark brown pelt, natural worn pine wood, and bamboo mats—all with my late 1800’s log cabin wall directly behind and close to the fiber. I also included a photo of the matching blackberry-dyed cotton scrunchies from the same dye pot for color comparison. Two comparison photos display this lot alongside three other blackberry dye lots, one with brief text labels showing bunny name, dye lot, blackberry source, and alum used.

The final photo is my adorable Ruby Eyed White buck, Marshmallow Fluff, enjoying shaded outdoor time here at Running Bug Farm!

Images may vary by screen or lighting, but they best capture the soft, gentle cool pinkish-purple tone.

Message me anytime—I'm happy to chat bunny raising, farm life, natural dyeing experiments (my favorite creative playtime!), or whatever fiber fun you're up to! While my main focus is caring for the critters and growing things like blackberries, lavender, and dye plants, I love hearing your spinning, felting, or project ideas (customers often teach me new tricks too). Let's geek out together! 🐰🌿🧶
