Breakfast: The Most Important Book About The Best Meal Of The Day
Because I run my own small Eco farm, I have lots of fresh eggs & lots of fresh milk from my darling Jersey cows. This book is like a gift from above. So many delicious uses for the tasty goodies my sweet animals provide. However, this is more than just a cookbook. It is also a wildly entertaining book about food. I'm originally from NJ so reading about the Pork Roll Taylor Ham debate as well the descriptions of us Jersey folks had me shaking my head in mirth, making me both nostalgic for my birth place & also relieved to no longer live there.
Do you like Earl Grey tea? For me, the first time I tried it my best friends mom made me a cuppa. I was only 17. Prior to that I drank whatever black bagged tea my Nana decided to buy. Earl Grey blew me away. I was hooked. So how about 'London Fog Is a Drinkable Blanket' for your next trip into Earl Grey Bliss (yes, the recipe title is this long, gotta love the sense of humor in this book)? I happily whip up this yummy latte for a new twist on an old favorite. Thank you Extra Crispy for this new & tasty delight!
What about lemon curd? OMG, how I love lemon curd. Lemon curd with clotted cream.... So good. 'Fruit Curd, Y'Heard?' This makes a huge quart sized batch of curd (I made... you guessed it, lemon!). It was easy to do. The hardest part was all the stirring. It turned out delicious!
So what exactly is in this book? It's a little of everything & probably a little more of what you wouldn't expect. From the basics to making toast, to even making alcoholic drinks & full breakfast meals, it's all in here along with some food history. I must warn you, if you are like me & enjoy wholesome real foods, there are parts of this book with some disturbing, albeit rather entertaining recipes for some very odd conventional factory processed pseudo foods. While I would never eat these odd concoctions, it was still rather interesting to see what the other half is up to.
If you like breakfast & like to prepare your own meals, then why are you still reading this? Order a copy (or see if your library has it first) & get cooking!
