The 5-Minute Stoicism Journal: Create Space for Joy, Positivity, and Reflection by Matthew J. Van Natta
This is a wonderful daily journal that came at the right time in my life. I really feel you have to be ready & willing to open yourself up to this type of thinking.
Some entries take longer (require more thought to fill in) than others. It's nice to have some quiet time to reflect. The more it is put to use, the more at ease I find my mind. When something negative happens I find I am getting better at not having that knee jerk reaction. Instead I take the time to think about what is happening & if I can do anything about it. If not, I do my best to let it go. I'm not saying a negative situation doesn't create stress, it's hard for certain things not to, what I am saying is that I find I'm not letting it dominate & control my day/s thought/s if I can't do anything about it.
There is a lot to learn from this practice. I'll never forget when a new employee started & so many of the other long time employees were always needing to see what everyone else was doing, including her. She said something like, "why can't people just mind there own business & worry about themselves? They'd be a lot happier!" It wasn't just what she said, it was also her personality. She didn't put her nose in other folks business. She was content & happy. She was a joy to work with & be around. For all the times I "worried" about what others were doing, I could have been content in what I was doing. From there, I decided to put her comment into practice & yep, I am a whole heck of a lot happier for it.
Granted this book wont solve all the worlds problems. Children stuck in abusive/alcoholic families comes to mind, but for many adults, with the right attitude, this can change the way you think - for the better.
