The Wim Hoff Method: Activate Your Full Human Potential by Wim Hof
Many years ago I heard of the Ice Man. Mainly from my Dad. He mentioned extreme conditions boosting health. I listened. Figured he was right & continued doing all I could to be comfortable but active. Then about a year ago or so I listened to the book 'What Doesn't Kill Us' on Audible. That kept Wim Hof in my head. But still, I didn't partake in any of it. Cold shower? Yeah, I'll pass. Thank you very much. I'll stay comfy while the men strut around beating their chests & taking ice baths.
Then this book pops up & I think, "Sure I'll read that." I wasn't 100% sure I'd enjoy it, but I am at least interested in health, fitness, diet, etc. Now, I'm taking 1 min. cold showers. That's as far as I've got as of this review. I plan to download the free app to work on the breathing.
So, those cold shower? Yeah man, they are as fun as they sound. The first time I put my arm in the cold water for 15 seconds & I couldn't take it anymore. The next day, I tried again. I put my back to the shower, put my forearms over my breasts & stood in that icy cold December well water for a full minute. I really don't know how the heck I am sticking with this so far. I'm taking a guess that Wim has me convinced that if I can & do stick with it, I might start to feel better.
Here's the thing, while reading about all the tests run on Wim to prove his method, in the back of my mind I thought, "I wonder if this would help Endometriosis?" Later in the book Wim mentions how his method is currently being explored to see if it will help Endo suffers. Endo hurts. A lot. It robs you of the joy of life. One minute in an icy shower has NOTHING on the agonies of Endo. So into the cold I go. Time will tell if it helps. But it shouldn't be doing me any harm. It doesn't cost me anything. It very well could end up improving my quality of life.
I also like the simplicity of Wim's method. We humans over complicate everything. I love his "Just do it!" attitude. Don't overthink it, just do it. Just "breathe motherfxxkers!". Breath, go into the cold. Let go of ego. No chest beaters here.
